A place to learn about the characteristics of
materials and open up possibilities.
SCROLL DOWN
Kyoto is home to architecture, fashion, decorative crafts, tool-making, and other traditional industries that have an extensive production history using the cutting-edge technologies of the day.
At the Material Library, we have developed an archive of the materials and techniques used in these traditional industries. Through this, we hope to develop a bridge between these traditional industries as a form of modern-day manufacturing within new fields.
We have a collection of materials produced from a broad range of techniques employed by these traditional industries. These include, shrine and temple construction, Buddhist altars, Nishijin textiles, and ‘yuzen’ dyeing.
